What Makes Deep Fitted Sheets Different from Standard Sheets?

Before we discuss the difference between fitted sheets and standard ones, let us first delve into their similarities since they have a greater number of similarities than differences.

Firstly, both standard and deep fitted sheets are bed sheets which are employed to cover the mattress. It will be uncomfortable for people to lie directly on the mattress so bed covers are placed at the top. If your mattress has no cover, the dust and dirt will go directly to the mattress and you will not be able to use the mattress for a long time. However, if you use sheets as covers, the dirt, stain and dust will settle on the sheets but you can easily wash and change the bed cover.

In terms of the materials used in producing these sheets, both types are the same since they can be manufactured from linen, cotton or polyester. The most expensive sheets are made of Egyptian cotton, silk and bamboo fiber. Of course, you can expect better look and quality if you buy the more expensive sheets but it does not mean that cheaper ones are not good. The best choice of sheet is not solely based on the price.

The quality of the bed sheets can be determined through their thread count. Ordinarily, bed sheets that come with higher thread count are the softer ones. This goes for both the deep fitted and standard sheets. However, it is not the thread count alone which contributes to the softness and quality of sheets. The material used to make the sheets is also a determinant of the overall quality. One good example is an Egyptian cotton sheet whose 800 thread count is lower than that of 1000 thread counts of a polyester bed sheet. The Egyptian cotton sheet is still considered softer and has the higher quality.

So where does the difference lie? The big difference is on the construction of the sheets. A regular bed sheet is simply a flat piece of cloth while the deep fitted one is elastic which is stitched in the edges or corners of the sheet. The elastic sewn into the fitted sheet makes sure that the sheet stays in place. The bed sheet will therefore not fall off the mattress even if you move a lot while sleeping.

The difference between these two types of sheets may be fewer than the similarities but the effect on your bed is huge. The deep fitted sheet will make the bed look better because the bed cover fits just right. At nights, you need not worry that your sheet will fall off if you are using deep fitted sheet. For these reasons, you can definitely say that deep fitted sheets are very advantageous.
