Using Gas Pool Heater And Solar Covers Together

Do you have a swimming pool? Does your swimming pool have a gas heater attached to it? Does it cost a fortune to run your gas heater in today’s market?

Of course it does!

Swimming pool heaters are great, but they can get expensive. The price you pay of having your pool go from 60 degrees to 80 degrees in a day is expensive, but for some people it might be totally worth the price. I personally would like to swim in a nice heated pool all the time, espeically during the cool summer nights in New Jersey, but I’m not sure I want to deal with paying for all that gas during the summer. The one thing that’s great about the summer is the low prices on my gas bill.

However, there is  way to keep your gas bill low in the summer while still using your swimming pool heater. Invest in a solar cover.

Solar pool covers are, in perspective, a giant blue sheet of bubble wrap that you can easily place on top your swimming pool when you are not using it. The great thing about using a solar pool cover is it acts like a lid to a giant Thermos (your swimming pool).

You can use your swimming pool heater to raise the temperature of your pool water quickly to where you want it and then use your solar cover to keep the heat from evaporating.

It’s suggested that you use your solar cover at night (which kinda defeats the purpose of what the name suggests). Nights are cooler and it’s the perfect time for your pool to lose all of it’s heater it’s gained from your pool heater and the sun during the day. So by putting on the cover at night when no one is using the pool, you can save all that precious heat you gained during the day.
