Places to find Retro Bedroom Furniture

Retro designs, translated into clothing, fashion accessories or furniture, carries with it a unique but familiar appeal.  While certain items are tacky whether the year is 1972 or 2011, there are certain pieces, regardless of the category, that just seem to work.  Retro furniture bedroom designs are a hip way to throw a little flavor into the traditional ho-hum contemporary bedroom suite.

Retro bedroom furniture does not necessarily have to be dated items such as beaded doorways (although they do add a nice touch), and black velvet wall paintings of Elvis.  The lamp does not need to be lava in order for it to be considered retro.  It can simply have a cool shade or base that will place the piece in the retro category.

The best places to find these pieces are from antique dealers, consignment and thrift shops. Garage sales are also gold mines.  Lots of people are trying to get rid of pieces they can no longer use , but that would look fabulous in one of your rooms.  Remember the old saying: One person’s trash is another person’s treasure.  And that is really the truth.  Keep in mind that although the piece may look weathered or worn, your diamond in the rough may just require a little sanding and refinishing, painting or even simply some cleaning.

In addition to your new accent pieces, adding a new coat of paint in a unique, crisp and complementary color can add to the look of antiquity that you are trying to achieve. Updating your window treatment is another inexpensive way to complete your look.  And keep in mind; it is not necessary to retro the entire room.  Toss in a few contemporary pieces for an eclectic look.  Whatever you decide, make sure to shop around until you find the right pieces that fit your personality.
