Installing LED Landscapes

There are many reasons why you would want to light up your landscape. You can use landscape lighting to illuminate a focal point, for added security or for the visual appeal of being able to enjoy your yard during the hours of night.

There are many different types of lights you can use when choosing a bulb for your landscape lighting. The conventional type of light bulb is the most widely used but due to its high energy usage, low efficiency, horrible durability and short lifetime it is not the most green solution for eco friendly houses. The most eco friendly solution for lighting your landscape is the LED light.

If you are installing landscape lighting with the idea of being eco-friendly or green than you should consider LED landscape lighting. These lights are not only eco-friendly but also smart to your pocket. Since LED lights use less energy than conventional bulbs they save money on our energy bills. They also have a much longer lifetime than many other light bulbs and therefore create less waste to the environment.

LED stands for light emitting diode. These lights have been used commercially for around 50 years and have been quite improved during that time. LED’s are now more cost efficient, brighter, last longer, cost less and are safer than they were in the past.

LED’s are free of chemicals such as mercury which is an added pro to using them. Also, when you look at the energy costs of using LED’s compared to halogen bulbs the results are pretty astounding. LED’s use only about ten percent of the energy which halogen lights use. This means that you pay 90 percent less on your energy bills!

The lifetime of LED bulbs are quite amazing when you compare them to halogens. Standard halogens last around 3,000 hours in total while the specialty varieties last for about 12,000 hours total. LED’s last far longer and can last for over 40,000 hours total! That means that if you turned your LED’s on continuously they would not need to be replaced for over 4 years.

Another added benefit to using LED bulbs in your landscape is that they produce a large amount of light for how little energy they use. This is just another of the many reasons you should consider LED lights when looking for a bulb to use to illuminate your landscape.
